Something to know about me, Duna, is that I am completely, totally, shamefully and yet unabashedly a foodie: cooking, eating, marketting and restauranting count amongst the activities to which I devote the most time. Knowing that Lala would have me blogging for her for this week-and-a-half, I was provided with the perfect excuse to go explore some of the more “Berlinische” restaurants (not that I needed an excuse, but one is always nice). Another thing to know about me: I love to dance.
Thus, the first place I have chosen to write to you all about is the Rodeo Club, a restaurant-bar combination venue that screams “Berlin” in that:
1. It is hidden. You must walk thru a rusting wrought-iron gate and across a deserted (except for a number of large garbage containers) courtyard in order to get to the totally inconspicuous door that opens into the stairway that leads to the third floor of an old post office building, where you then find the gorgeous domed dining room, which stands right next door to the bar/club space.
2. The music is always provided by DJs – at least one, sometimes two. They spin all evening, every evening that the restaurant is open, filling the air with everything from chilled-out lounge to bass-heavy electronic music.
3. As mentioned, the Rodeo Club is both restaurant and club. Such club mixtures (restaurant-club, apartment-club, ping pong bar-club) are quite popular in, and quite unique to, Berlin. They also make the commute from activity to acitivity pleasantly brief.
4. The “Menschengruppe” (literally “group of people” – just one example of a German word that encapsulates an entire English phrase) is young, stylish and multicultural. On any given night you will inevitably hear a veritable assortment of languages, mainly English and German but continuing on into the realm of French, Spanish, Italian and perhaps even a bit of Russian.

À propos ‘Berlinische’ places I also have one: Let’s all go and have dinner at the beautifully charming “Bötzow Privat” just around the corner. I am sure the dancing part can be arranged somehow.
Another merit of this post: It (re-)introduced me (German) to the word ‘Menschengruppe’.
Cheers!
