Rapa Regal

January 26, 2012

rapaPosada de Mike Rapu, Explora Rapa Nui is like a fairytale. Explora’s LEED-certified lodge offers accomodations worthy of its legendary (and legendarily remote) setting 3,700 miles off Chile’s coast. Built to blend into the arid, rocky landscape, the Posada uses pine wood, local stone, and a cylindrical glass-heavy design endowing all 30 suites have enormous windows with broad views of the Pacific (good thing, because there are no TVs.) The property is paradise for active travelers: each morning, guests choose from a menu of excursions, including volcano treks, horseback rides along the coast (bring a picnic lunch!), and scuba dives. It’s transformative.

wshhIf Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren had a baby it would be the Washington School House Hotel. The latest piece of heaven to fall into the U.S. landed in Park City just in time for Sundance. Despite the endless parties and films you almost don’t want to leave your room! Lala can honestly say that the staff was one of the best she has encountered in her entire career. Seriously. The perfectly served breakfasts in front of a roaring fire under 16 ft. ceilings were magic. Want a massage? no problem. A res at any restaurant regardless of the extra 50,000 people that have taken over the town…no problem. An extra duffel that magically appears in your room when you have hit the gifting suites a little too hard…again, no problem. Luxuriate in your room, piled in white Pratesi linens, down feather bed and pillows. Have a drink in the chic ski lounge. There’s even a heated pool and spa tucked into the hillside surrounded by aspens, spruce and boulders. I almost want to write about this place all year long just to get your attention because the Washington School House certainly got mine. There are only 12 rooms inside this hideaway…but I’m telling you now…I may just take them all next year…but I can save you one if you ask nicely :)

Gifted

January 24, 2012

giftedIt’s not every day that you need to buy a new suitcase for all your take-home items from a trip. And it’s definitely not everyday when you can do it for free. Enter the Sundance gifting suites. Yes, nothing like a good excuse to stock up on free Timberland jackets and boots, custom made shirts, luxury face creams from Fresh, Sorel boots, Skullcandy products, Saga Outerwear, Matt Berson boots, Vita Coconut water, Prasad cosmetic creams, Olive oil and even jewelry. But if you can get it, it can be yours…and Lala is a happily gifted woman now. For the record, I also could have received a free tattoo at the Miami Oasis lounge..but I took a pass. Sometimes certain things needs to be re-gifted to someone more brave than I!

Sundance Spa

January 23, 2012

amatsuLet’s just say that after a long few days and little sleep, Lala needs a serious massage. Head to the Sky Lodge for an asian inspired slice of heaven at the Amatsu Spa. Dunk your beautiful self into your own private wooden soaking tub and follow up with a rub down like nobody’s business. Oh, yeah…that’s what I’m talking about.
