Seattle has a new arty party in town. I like to think of myself as a social beast but when I want to throw my own soiree, the kids are often the animal to contend with. A shinnenkai (Japanese “new year gathering”) is the Japanese tradition of welcoming the arrival of the New Year, usually by the drinking of alcohol. A shinnenkai is generally held among friends in January. What better place to hold this nonstop adventure than some amazing sushi, a little karaoke and a lot of fun. First stop for sushi would definitely be Nishino. A staple of perfection in the sushi world, Nishino holds the number one spot for fresh fresh fresh and chef tatsu knows his stuff. Next up is Izakaya for some Shochu and round two of Japanese food. Finally, send of the evening with a stop at bush gardens for a little karaoke. Sing the night away and bring in the new year!

A dear friend of mine just took the helm as editor of a bigtime bridal magazine and it got me thinking. What would it be like to live, work, breathe indefinitely in marital planning bliss/hell? And if I were to do it all over again (marry, that is), what would I do differently or the same for that matter? The same is the easy part. I would pick the same guy. Done. Although I did have the legendary wedding of my dreams, it would be fun to do it all over again. Perhaps pick a private island (necker anyone? mustique?), honeymoon at each one of the villas of distinction, and visit all the Aman resorts on the second part of the honeymoon. What would you do?
